LIST OF WHERE TO SHOP AND WHERE TO NOT SHOP:
“Found in another group, wish I could credit it to someone: I made a guide for grocery stores in Minnesota. Please support your local businesses, especially owned by immigrant families that are under heavy pressure. But please also consider that people are struggling and need every dollar to reach as far as it can - let's not judge but support each other and be kind. Feel free to share it to your community, family and friends!
RESISTING TRUMP/ SUPPORTING DEI Lunds & Byerlys (27 locations) - Minnesota family-owned. CEO publicly committed to DEI. Has dedicated DEI committee. No Trump donation trail found. Kowalski's Markets (11 locations) - Minnesota family-owned since 1983 by the Kowalski family. No Trump donation trail found. Coborn's (70+ locations) - Minnesota chain, employee owned. Clear commitment to DEI. No Trump donation trail found. Costco - 98% of shareholders voted to keep DEI programs despite pressure. Board publicly stated they won't back down. Trader Joe's - Publicly reaffirmed DEI commitment. 84% of political donations go to Democrats. Golden Harvest Foods - Local independent store. Colonial Market - Local independent store. Longfellow Market - Local independent store. Loma Bonita - Local independent store. Estrella Super Market - Local independent store. Cathy Mackenthun’s Meats - Local independent store. El Burrito Mercado - Local independent store. Fresh Thyme Market (9 locations) - Majority-owned by Meijer, a private Michigan family company. Meijer publicly reaffirmed DEI commitment. No Trump inauguration donations. Private ownership means no shareholder pressure. One of the few Republican families that openly defied Trump. Food Co-ops Minnesota co-ops include: • Eastside Food Co-op (Northeast Minneapolis) • Wedge Community Co-op (Minneapolis - Lyndale and Linden Hills) • Seward Community Co-op (Minneapolis) • Lakewinds Food Co-op (Minnetonka, Chanhassen, Richfield) • Mississippi Market (St. Paul - multiple locations) • Many more in smaller towns across the state
RESISTING TRUMP - AFFORDABILITY Fare For All (30+ locations in MN) - A non-profit program that buys fresh produce and meat in bulk to sell at up to 40% off grocery store prices. No membership fees. You pay for a "pack" (e.g., a $10 produce box or $25 meat pack). Check their website for pop-up locations. Five Below (25 locations) - Does not make political contributions. Still publishes ESG reports with diversity data. Mike’s Discount Foods (Multiple locations: Fridley, Hilltop, Princeton, etc.) - This is a "salvage grocery" store. They sell scratch-and-dent boxes, short-dated food, and surplus items for pennies on the dollar. It is considered the cheapest place to buy food in the Twin Cities metro. CO-OPS - many co-ops have a "needs-based discount", check your local co-ops to see what they offer. Bulk bins here are often cheaper than Walmart with their discount. Misfits Market / Imperfect Foods (ONLINE) - They mail "ugly" produce and pantry staples to your door. Prices are often 30-40% lower than grocery stores. They deliver to almost all Minnesota zip codes.
SUPPORTED TRUMP Cub Foods (106 locations - largest in MN) - Owned by UNFI, whose largest shareholder is BlackRock. BlackRock has rolled back its own DEI commitments to appease the Right and is heavily criticized for profiting from the housing crisis and fossil fuels. ->OBS! This is not applicable on Jerry’s Franchise Locations. Franchise will have a decal in the corner of the sliding doors: "Locally Owned & Operated by Jerry's" (or rarely, another family). Corporates will usually just say "Welcome to Cub" or list store hours. You can also check this online. Walmart - Donated $1M to Trump's inauguration. Rolled back DEI. Target (Minneapolis-based) - Donated $1M to Trump's inauguration. Dropped DEI despite their 2021 commitments after George Floyd protests. Whole Foods (Amazon-owned) - Amazon donated $1M to Trump's inauguration. Ended DEI. Jeff Bezos reversed from Trump critic to ally. Hy-Vee (40 locations in MN) - PAC donated $25,000 to Iowa GOP for Trump fundraiser. CEO sent political messages to employees. Donates to 4 Democrats vs 15 Republicans. Menards (40 locations in MN) - Owner John Menard is a major GOP megadonor and longtime Trump ally. He has donated millions to conservative causes and Trump-aligned PACs. He is strictly anti-union. Dollar General (190 locations in MN) - Quietly scrubbed DEI language from their website and fired their Chief Diversity Officer (who is now suing the company). Heavy history of labor violations and union-busting; widely criticized for understaffing and safety issues in low-income communities.”
No Kings 2, October 18, 2025
-
In June, we did what many claimed was impossible: peacefully mobilized millions of people to take to the streets and declare with one voice: America has No Kings. And it mattered. The world saw the power of the people. President Trump’s birthday parade was drowned out by protests in every state and across the globe. His attempt to turn June 14 into a coronation collapsed, and the story became the strength of a movement rising against his authoritarian power grabs.
Now, President Trump has doubled down. His administration is sending masked agents into our streets, terrorizing our communities. They are targeting immigrant families, profiling, arresting and detaining people without warrants. Threatening to overtake elections. Gutting healthcare, environmental protections, and education when families need them most. Rigging maps to silence voters. Ignoring mass shootings at our schools and in our communities. Driving up the cost of living while handing out massive giveaways to billionaire allies, as families struggle.
The president thinks his rule is absolute. But in America, we don’t have kings and we won’t back down against chaos, corruption, and cruelty.
Our peaceful movement is only getting bigger and bigger. “NO KINGS” is more than just a slogan; it is the foundation our nation was built upon. Born in the streets, shouted by millions, carried on posters and chants, it echoes from city blocks to rural town squares, uniting people across this country to fight dictatorship together.
Because this country does not belong to kings, dictators, or tyrants. It belongs to We the People - the people who care, who show up, and the ones who fight for dignity, a life we can afford, and real opportunity. No Thrones. No Crowns. No Kings.

Signs of Solidarity
- The Trump administration is deploying ICE deep into the hearts of our communities in an effort to spread fear among immigrants. In many places across the country, immigrant families – even citizens – are terrified to go to work, to do their shopping, to go about their lives for fear they may be rounded up by unaccountable masked men.
We can and must stand up for immigrants and show that they are essential and welcomed members of our communities.
Sign up now to visit local businesses in your neighborhood. Ask the business owners or managers to post signs that declare their support for their immigrant neighbors and opposition to ICE as well as create a private area for employees that ICE cannot legally enter without a signed judicial warrant. These are simple steps that businesses can take to protect their employees from ICE and make all immigrants feel welcome in your community.

Labor Day 2025 - Workers Over Billionaires
- Labor and community are planning more than a barbecue on Labor Day this year because we have to stop the billionaire takeover. Billionaires are stealing from working families, destroying our democracy, and building private armies to attack our towns and cities.
Just like any bad boss, the way we stop the takeover is with collective action. We are May Day Strong, working people rising up to stop the billionaire takeover–not just through the ballot box or the courts, but through building a bigger and stronger movement.
On September 1st we will continue the movement we launched on May 1st. Thousands of communities across the country are taking a stand on Labor Day, join us!
Won't Back Down
- This summer, we’re hitting the road with outspoken leaders who are with us in the fight against President Trump and Republicans, who are selling us out to benefit the richest Americans.
We’ll unite and rally in key Republican-held swing House districts, where we’re building an even bigger and bolder base of MoveOn members who are committed to flipping the House in the 2026 midterm elections.- Upcoming and recorded events
